The Calder Road investigation: restoring names to two victims
A 2019 FBI account described the identification of women previously known as Jane Doe and Janet Doe.
For years, two women found near Calder Road in League City, Texas, were known publicly by placeholder names. In 2019, the FBI described a breakthrough that restored their identities.
The woman found in 1986 and known as Jane Doe was identified as Audrey Lee Cook. The woman discovered in 1991 and called Janet Doe was identified as Donna Gonsoulin Prudhomme.
Their remains were found in the same rural area associated with the deaths of Heidi Fye and Laura Miller. In its September 2019 account, the FBI described work by League City police and federal investigators, including forensic analysis and public appeals.
Identification and solving a killing are different milestones. Learning a victim’s name can answer a family’s long-standing question without, by itself, establishing who caused that person’s death.
This article summarizes the identification breakthrough documented in 2019; it does not claim a new development in the investigation. The history shows why details retained by families, investigators and public records can remain important long after a disappearance.
